About 18 tribal groups live in Barendra region including Santals, Oraos, Mahales, Mundas. Most of this population lives below the poverty line. As the underground water level is very low, it is not possible to extract drinking water with the help of normal tube wells. In order to solve this problem, safe drinking water is being provided all the time through submersible pumps and reserve tanks at the Ashrai organization’s own expense and with the help of donor organizations. Besides, monthly meetings are being held with the member couples of the association to help in setting up hygienic toilets in the family and to increase awareness in their use.
